UAE Introduces 10-Year Blue Visa for Environmentalists

The “Blue” residency visa, also known as the Blue Visa, is a new long-term, self-sponsored visa category that the UAE Cabinet authorized on May 16. For a maximum of ten years, foreign people who have made “exceptional contributions” to environmental protection are permitted to live and work in the United Arab Emirates.

The Blue Visa aligns with the UAE government’s declaration that 2024 would be the Year of Sustainability in the nation. It results from multiple efforts launched since 2019 to provide long-term residency visas, like the initiatives outlined in the UAE’s Circular Economy Policy, which focuses on building a more sustainable future.

The Blue Visa will be awarded to those who support current technology in the circular economy and other related disciplines, as well as sustainability.

Foreign nationals can apply for Blue Visas directly through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) online portal or be nominated by appropriate authorities.

After the Golden Visa was established in 2019 and granted a 10-year residency to investors, entrepreneurs, exceptional persons, specialized skills, high-earning executives, or working professionals, the new visa is the most recent to be introduced in the UAE.

The UAE also launched a five-year “Green Residence Visa” in 2022 to attract and retain exceptional talent, skilled professionals, independent contractors, investors, and business owners from around the world.

The President of Cop28 and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Dr Sultan Al Jaber, stated that the goal of the blue residency visa is to draw in international environmental leaders who would support the sustainable economic and social development of the United Arab Emirates.

It emphasizes how committed the country is to using cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence to develop meaningful answers. When implemented with a forward-thinking mindset, these solutions will solve climate concerns and turn them into chances for a better future for our planet and humanity.

More information regarding the Blue Residency visa should become available in the upcoming months.
